From Celebration to Commitment — How One Night Ignited a Collective Call to Build the MCIC and Strengthen Student Wellness

St. Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) commemorated its 65th Anniversary with an elegant Banquet and Ball that brought together distinguished alumni, national leaders, faculty, supporters, and student representatives for an evening defined by pride, reflection, and renewed purpose.
More than a celebration, the evening became a moment of alignment—where legacy met responsibility, and where the call to invest in the future of STATHS was both clear and compelling.
A Distinguished Gathering of Influence and Legacy
The significance of the occasion was reflected in the presence of esteemed dignitaries and leaders who continue to shape Jamaica’s educational, civic, and spiritual landscape. Among those in attendance were The Honourable Desmond McKenzie, OJ, CD, MP; Robert Hill, JP, Chief Executive Officer at KASMC & Chairman of STATHS; The Right Reverend Leon Golding; Principal Dr. Hibbert; Vice-Principals Rohan Lemond and Yvonne Mamher-Tafari; former Principal Mrs. Powell; and Silvera Castro, OD, JP; Dr Kasan Troupe Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education; Mr. Richard Troupe Director of Safety and Security in Ministry of Education; Education Officer Mr. Justin Duncan.
Behind the scenes, the success of the week-long celebration was made possible through the steady leadership of the Principal, Mr. Hibbert, and the thoughtful coordination of Mr. Lemond and his team, who worked closely with alumni groups, stakeholders, and partners. Their collective efforts quietly wove together the many elements of the celebration into a seamless and meaningful experience.
Also in attendance were alumni from across the diaspora, a powerful reminder of the global reach and enduring connection of the STATHS community.
A Vision That Begins at the Gate
Delivering the keynote address, STATHS past student The Hon. Lyttleton “Tanny” Shirley, OJ, CD, accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Roxan Shirley, brought both clarity and conviction to the evening’s purpose. He highlighted the absence of a bold, defining entrance to STATHS and committed to supporting the establishment of a distinguished, signed entrance—one that reflects the identity of STATHS as the “Oasis in the Desert.”
A Deeper Call: Investing in Student Well-Being
Mr. Shirley emphasized his support for the Medical Counseling & Intervention Center (MCIC), a transformative initiative focused on student health and wellness. Through a generous personal contribution, he demonstrated leadership and challenged fellow alumni to rise to the occasion.
In a strong show of unity, leadership from the S W Isaac-Henry Track & Field Invitational Committee, STATHS International Partners (SIPA) and Jamaica Chapter also pledged financial support for the MCIC.
A Message That Bridged Generations
Recognizing the significance of the moment, Mr. Shirley chose to acknowledge and speak directly to current sixth formers, Head Boy Fabian Wallace and Deputy Head Girl Myla McKenzie. In that exchange, legacy met future—and responsibility was passed forward.

An Evening of Celebration with Purpose
Proceeds from the evening will support the advancement of the MCIC, reinforcing a shared commitment to student well-being.
Looking Ahead
Legacy is not preserved by memory alone—it is sustained through action.
