STATHS Marks 65 Years of Excellence While Alumni Unite Around Historic Wellness Initiative

In 2026, St. Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) will celebrate a remarkable milestone — 65 years of shaping lives, building character, and empowering generations of students through technical, academic, and vocational excellence. Founded in 1961 on Spanish Town Road in Kingston, the institution began with just over one hundred students and a small academic staff, growing over the decades into a vibrant co-educational community known for its motto of Honour, Diligence, and Service.

As the school prepares to commemorate this historic anniversary, alumni around the world are coming together not only to celebrate the past, but to invest in the future of STATHS students.

A Shared Vision: The Medical Counseling & Intervention Center (MCIC)

At the heart of this milestone year is a transformative initiative — the proposed Medical Counseling & Intervention Center (MCIC). Led by the graduating Class of 1978 in partnership with the school administration and other alumni groups, the project aims to create a modern facility designed to support student wellness, counseling, and early intervention services.

The need is clear. With a student population exceeding 1,600, the current support space is limited, making it difficult to meet the growing emotional, mental, and health needs of the student body. The proposed center will expand these services significantly, positioning STATHS to become one of the first high schools in Jamaica to establish a dedicated wellness center of this scale. More than a building, the MCIC represents a forward-thinking investment in student success — addressing not only academic performance but the whole-person well-being essential for thriving in today’s world.

Collaboration Across Alumni Generations

What makes this initiative particularly powerful is its collaborative nature. Alumni associations across Jamaica, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom are working together with a unified purpose — to strengthen support systems for current students while honoring the legacy of those who came before.

This spirit of partnership reflects the longstanding tradition of alumni engagement at STATHS, where graduates have consistently contributed resources, mentorship, and advocacy to help advance the school’s mission. Organizations like alumni chapters and partner groups continue to serve as vital bridges between the institution and its global network of supporters. (ujaausa.org)

The MCIC initiative has become a rallying point, demonstrating what can happen when alumni align around a shared vision for long-term impact.

A Legacy Moment for the 65th Anniversary

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the MCIC will be featured in Founders Week activities, alumni events, and special presentations highlighting the school’s past, present, and future. These efforts are designed not as fundraising drives, but as opportunities to build awareness, inspire pride, and invite meaningful engagement from the wider STATHS family.

The project symbolizes a new chapter — one that blends tradition with innovation and reflects the evolving needs of today’s students.

A Call to the STATHS Community

The 65th anniversary is more than a celebration — it is a moment of collective responsibility and opportunity.

Alumni, friends, and supporters are encouraged to:

• Stay informed about the MCIC initiative• Participate in upcoming Founders Week activities• Share the vision within their networks• Explore ways to contribute time, expertise, or resources

By working together, the global STATHS community has the opportunity to create a lasting legacy that will benefit generations of students to come.

As the school marks this important milestone, one message resonates clearly:

The strength of STATHS has always been its people — and its future will be shaped by their continued unity, pride, and commitment.
