A Call to Partnership

By the Chairman, STATHS 78 & Friends Alumni Group

For more than 60 years, St. Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) has played a vital role in shaping Jamaica’s future. Generations of students have passed through its classrooms and workshops, leaving with the skills, discipline, and determination to contribute to their families, communities, and our nation.

Over the decades, the school’s influence has extended far beyond its campus, touching the lives of alumni who proudly carry its lessons wherever life has taken them, as well as parents, educators, community members, and partners who believe deeply in its mission and its impact on the wider community. Together, we have an opportunity to invest in the future of this institution and the young people it serves. By supporting this initiative, we can help strengthen not only the school itself, but also the thousands of students and families whose lives it will continue to influence for years to come.

This initiative is about far more than a new building. It is about ensuring that the young people who come through STATHS each day have access to the care, support, and resources they need to thrive not only academically, but physically and emotionally as well. The current sick bay was originally designed to serve the basic health needs of up to 500 students, a capacity that no longer reflects the size and needs of the current student body. Today, our population has grown to more than 1,700 students, and the existing facilities simply cannot meet the needs of such a large and dynamic school community.

The Medical, Counseling & Intervention Center, MCIC, will address this challenge by creating a modern, dedicated center that brings together medical services, counseling support, and wellness education in one integrated space. Just as importantly, this center represents an opportunity for STATHS to lead.

When completed, the MCIC will position our school as one of the first secondary institutions in Jamaica to establish a comprehensive wellness center focused on student wellness. In doing so, STATHS can set a powerful example for how schools across the country can support the holistic wellbeing of their students. The impact of this initiative will extend far beyond the walls of the campus.

A healthier school environment strengthens the entire community. By supporting early intervention, mental health awareness, and preventive care, the MCIC will help students remain focused, resilient, and prepared for the challenges of modern life.

Beyond the school campus, the center will serve as a community asset. It will host outreach programs, educational workshops, and practical training opportunities that empower families and residents with knowledge and life-saving skills. Initiatives such as CPR and first-aid certification, delivered in partnership with organizations like the Jamaica Red Cross, will expand access to critical health training and help build a safer, better-prepared community.

Projects of this scale and significance require partnership. We are therefore inviting corporate leaders, philanthropic organizations, and individuals who believe in the power of education and community investment to join us in making this vision a reality. Supporting the MCIC is not simply an act of generosity; it is an investment in Jamaica’s future. The students who will benefit from this center will one day become the professionals, entrepreneurs, innovators, and leaders who shape our country’s progress.

As alumni, we know firsthand the impact STATHS can have on a young person’s life. The MCIC initiative allows us to strengthen that legacy and ensure that the next generation of students receives the support they need to succeed.

I invite you to learn more about the Medical Counseling & Intervention Center and to consider how you or your organization can become part of this historic effort.

Together, we can build something meaningful not just for STATHS, but for Western Kingston and, by extension, Jamaica.

Respectfully,

Claude Bryan Chairman,

STATHS 78’ & Friends
